​On behalf of my clients who operate in the Australian Defence sector, I am currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Systems Engineer.

The role is being offered as a long term (12 month +) day rate contract and will be based in Brisbane.

Due to the nature of the work candidates must hold NV1 or above clearance.


JOB BRIEF:

As the Mechanical Engineer you will report to the Project Director and will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing and delivering systems integration on various Australian Army platforms.

  • Responsible for auditing several existing platform configurations, applying sound engineering and platform design standards to support various Mandated System Reviews including PDR (Preliminary Design Review) and DDR (Detailed Design Review) Certification and the conduct of Systems Safety Reviews and Working Groups to support Certification for use.

  • Provide Engineering expertise and advice to support implementation, rollout and testing to ensure that the product conforms to the specifications specified in an approved design.

  • Provide Mechanical Systems Engineering services to support the achievement of technical integrity of mechanical systems used within the ADF. The required services may include:

  • Conducting requirements analysis and development.

  • Conducting design and implementation.

  • Conducting prototyping and trial installation activities

  • Conducting Verification & Validation (V&V);

  • Conducting certification and support.

  • Conducting engagement and collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Conducting planning and the delivery of engineering services, regulatory compliance, resource management and project outcomes; and

  • Conducting reviews of contract deliverables.

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS SOUGHT:

The Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the below criteria:

  • Design structural components, such as shelving, mounts, brackets, etc required for the integration of military C4 systems on to Army platforms.

  • Use Computer Aided Design software for the drafting of technical drawings of structural components to a standard suitable for design approval and prototype manufacture.

  • Quality review of prototype manufactured hardware, inclusive of trial vehicle installation.

  • Work is often self-initiated. Is fully responsible for meeting allocated technical and/or project/supervisory objectives.

  • Influences organisation, customers, suppliers, partners and peers on the contribution of own specialism.

  • Performs an extensive range and variety of complex technical or professional work activities.

  • Advises on the available standards, methods, tools, and applications relevant to own specialism and can make appropriate choices from alternatives.

  • Conducts planning and generates report.

  • Assist with requirement specification.

  • Generates design documents and engineering reporting.

  • Assists with the development of V&V plans, procedures and reports.

  • Conducts hazard analysis and reporting.

  • Supports contract documentation, plans and reports.

Essential Qualifications / Certs:

  • A qualified practitioner with higher degree engineering qualifications or relevant industry experience of more than 7 years;

  • NV1 Clearance

Highly Desirable Experience:

  • Previous Defence experience is highly desirable.

  • Extensive industry and specialty experience in Mechanical engineering.

  • Experience driving processes and process improvements, including continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Experience with US Export Controls including Technical Assistance Agreements (TAA) and Third-Party Retransfer authorisations.
