​On  behalf of my clients who operate in the Australian Defence sector, I am urgently looking for an experienced Finance Manager who holds a current NV1 (or above) clearance.

The role is being offered as an initial 6 month contract until EOFY with a 12 month extension on top of this and will be based in Canberra.

As the Finance Manager you will be responsible for overseeing financial operations and reporting to support the company's strategic objectives.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage the full end-to-end accounting and finance function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and key performance metrics

  • Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting processes

  • Issue and management of PO's.

  • Provide strategic financial advice and recommendations to the executive team

  • Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture

  • Partner with other departments to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiencies

What we're looking for

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in a senior finance role, ideally within a Defence or FedGov

  • Qualified accountant (CPA, CA or equivalent) with strong technical accounting and financial management expertise

  • Proven track record of implementing robust financial controls, processes, and reporting frameworks

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information for non-finance audiences

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a finance team

  • Proficient in using financial software and data analysis tools

  • Adaptable and solutions-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • You MUST hold a minimum of NV1 or above clearance

  • It is also ESSENTIAL that you are familiar with the Resource and Output Management AND Accounting Network (ROMAN) which is the core Financial Management Information System in Defence.
